Tipton R-VI Board discusses summer school and buses

The Tipton R-VI School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 12.

On the topic of summer school, Superintendent Scott Jarvis informed the board that the process has begun to determine if summer school will be held this year. Full-day summer school was held last year.

The bus service was discussed, due to the problem the district has had in finding a sufficient number of bus drivers for the district. The district would prefer to keep its own school buses, but the lack of drivers could mean the bus service would have to be contracted out in the future.

In other business, Jarvis spoke of his meeting with Larry Hart of L. J. Hart and Company about updated information on the bond issue which will soon be proposed.

It was also reported that a grant from First Chance for Children in the amount of $10,000 is available to assist with Parents as Teachers. All that is required is to provide space for them to meet. Plans are to have the from PAT room made available. There is available space in the elementary building for the person currently using that space.
