California boys basketball team wins twice last week, suffers first loss

The California boys basketball team went 2-1 last week, picking up a pair of Tri-County Conference wins and losing its first game this season at the Camdenton Shootout.

The Pintos began last week with a conference victory over Osage, 65-62, on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Senior guard Jaden Barr finished with 22 points, while senior forward Drew Norton had 18 and senior forward Dylan Norton scored 10.

California got another conference win Friday night, beating Versailles, 66-32, on the road. Barr had 21 points, junior guard Landon Mouse added 16 points, Dylan Norton scored 12 and senior guard Eli Freeman finished with 11.

The Pintos suffered their first loss at Saturday's Camdenton Shootout, falling to Conway, 68-34. Barr scored 11, Mouse had eight points and Freeman added seven points.

California entered this week's action 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Pintos were ranked No. 7 in last week's Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 3 state poll.

Before the Osage game on Jan. 20, Barr was honored with a ceremonial game ball for surpassing 1,000 career points earlier this season. Barr accomplished the milestone against Fatima at the Linn Invitational in December.

California girls

The Lady Pintos dropped a 73-63 decision to Fatima on Thursday night. Freshman guard Elizabeth Lutz finished with 22 points, sophomore forward Cameron Meyer had 18 points and senior guard Kamryn Koetting scored 14. California, which dropped to 7-8 overall, played Fatima without starting forward Kelsey Roush, who missed the game with a sprained right ankle.

Tipton girls

The Lady Cardinals kept their perfect season intact last week, beating Kaysinger Conference opponent Sacred Heart, 48-39, on Thursday. Tipton, which improved to 18-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference, remained No. 4 in last week's MBCA Class 2 poll.

Tipton boys

The Cardinals lost to Kaysinger Conference foe Sacred Heart, 62-44, on Friday night. Tipton's Bryce Sanders had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Dylan Cooper added 12 points and eight rebounds.
