MCMC plans meeting for community garden

The Moniteau Christian Ministries Center, Inc. (MCMC) will host a meeting to discuss a community garden Feb. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the MCMC, located at 303 Latham Road, California. Anyone interested in helping plan and or maintain the garden is welcome to attend.

In partnership with the California FFA Chapter and the University of Missouri Interdisciplinary Center for Food Security, the planning stages of developing a community garden are in progress. The garden will be located behind the MCMC. Plans for the community garden include raised beds and a small in-ground plot for growing various types of vegetables. The plan is to start with a small garden area and expand with needs and interest from others in maintaining garden plots grow.

The University of Missouri Interdisciplinary Center for Food Security, "Grow Well Missouri" program working with the California FFA Chapter "Food For All" program will be developing educational materials and packaging free seeds for distribution at the MCMC. California FFA Chapter students will also make a "Garden in a Bag", container gardens, for homebound clients.

The California FFA Chapter has applied for a grant through the National FFA Organization "Food For All" Program to help fund the community garden.
