At band camp, Wednesday, July 22, the California Pinto Pride Band practices for an upcoming half-time show.

The first week of California's Pinto Pride Band Camp offered several different samples of weather to get the band accustomed to outdoor performances. The first day, a downpour sent them inside, but the time was well-used. First, to acquaint the new band members with the basics of band marching and second to learn how the opening music sounds.

The weather was hot and humid for the remainder of the first week, giving the band time to work on finding the drill positions, first without music, and then with music, of the half-time show for the 2015-16 school year. This year's show "Bonjour!" features music from "Phantom of the Opera" and Les Miserables.

By the end of the first week of camp, the band was confident enough to be able to rehearse the first half of the show. Director Dustijn Hollon said it was exciting to be ahead of schedule and be able to have a shortened rehearsal on Friday, July 24, finishing up about 11 a.m.

The band members and the director are looking forward to bringing the preparation for the planned half-time show to a highly successful close by the end of the two-week camp on Friday, July 31.
