"Museum Crawl' is Saturday

Details of the "Mini Museum Crawl" were provided to the Board of Directors of California Progress, Inc. (CPI) at the regular monthly meeting Thursday, May 21, at the library.

The "Museum Crawl" event, which features collections of area residents, is the big event of the day on Saturday, May 30. The locations in the California Historic District stretch from the Moniteau County Library at Wood Place, 501, South Oak Street, north to the office of Attorney Ann Perry at the northwest corner of the Courthouse Square. There is a wide range of collections on display for the day, ranging from Lionel trains and cameras, Santa Clauses, pigs, eagles, M&M collectibles and electric insulators. There is even a collection of Boy Scout Neckerchief clasps.

The event is organized by the Promotions Committee of the California Historic District (CHD), which is a subgroup of California Progress, Inc. (CPI). Tickets, actually punch cards, are available free at participating businesses on the day of the "crawl." Those who obtain visit marks for 15 of the locations are eligible for a drawing, with those who obtain 19 marks eligible for additional entries.

Locations and the collection featured follow:

• Moniteau County Library at Woodplace, 501 S. Oak Street, will feature Phil Lewis' cameras.

• California City Hall, 500 S. Oak Street, will feature Sam Brant's Lionel Trains.

• California Farmers Market, Smith-Burke Park, will feature Joann Winters' Santa Clauses, as well as having produce and homemade items.

• Baer Brothers Woodworking, 106 East Dahler, will feature antique tools owned by Greg and Brad Baer.

• Oak Street Fabrics and More, 401 S. Oak Street, will feature Pam Buda's dolls.

• Central Bank, 329 S. Oak Street, will feature various quilts.

• Inspired Designs, 326 S. Oak Street, will feature Mary Ann Wasser's wired trees.

• Sweet Buy and Buy, 307 S. Oak Street, will feature Dean King's electricity insulators.

• Capital Tattoo Company, 300 S. Oak Street, will feature David Jungmeyer's animal skulls.

• Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, 100 S. Oak Street, will feature Jack Bowlin's antique funeral items.

• Moniteau County Historical Society, 201 N. High Street will feature Richard Schroeder's Boy Scout neckerchief clasps.

• Cheapees, 304 N. High Street, will feature Kenny Howard's Keen Kutter tools.

• Finke Theatre, 315 N. High Street, will feature tours of the 1885 Opera House.

• Patricia Kay Interiors, 401 N. High Street, will feature Gail Hughes' pig collection.

• Common Sense Coalition, 411 N. High Street, will feature Beth Schoeneberg's antique books and pink ware.

• Ann Perry, Attorney, Northwest corner of the Courthouse Square, will feature Rich Green's fossils and minerals.

• Moniteau County Court House, 200 E. Main Street, will feature Kenny Kunze's watches and clocks.

In other business, the CPI discussed the "Dancing with the Stars" event planned for the fall, selected Gumpster's BBQ and Catering to cater the dinner at the "Wine, Dine and Win" fundraising event scheduled for Oct. 17.

The board held additional discussion about the brick building near the railroad tracks and its possible use, first discussed at the March meeting. The board plans to make a decision at the next meeting, scheduled for June 18.

The board approved a resolution requested by the Missouri Main Street Connections organization.
