Historical Society offers service of decorating graves

The Moniteau County Historical Society announces a new combination service and fundraising project. "Decorate a Grave."

They are selling cemetery saddles and bushes for Memorial Day 2015 as well as decorating graves in Moniteau County cemeteries for those who are unable to physically go to a cemetery due to distance or health issues. They are selling two sizes of headstone saddles along with matching floral bushes and will decorate graves in Moniteau County cemeteries for an additional charge of $10 per grave.

The Historical Society maintains records of all the county cemeteries. Members felt there were individuals who would like to decorate the graves of their loved ones, but lived too far away or couldn't drive to the cemetery or would have difficulty walking to the grave, thus the idea of a service project. A member of the society will take the decoration of the individual's choice to the grave then take a photo that will be emailed to the purchaser. Beautiful floral saddles are also available for purchase by those wishing to decorate graves themselves.

To get a better idea of how many arrangements are needed, there is a 10 percent discount for floral arrangements ordered before April 10. For those decorating graves themselves, the saddles will be available for pick up after May 1 at the Historical Society in California or in Tipton at a point to be announced.

Order forms are available at the Society office in California, at city hall in both Tipton and California and at both public libraries. A form is also available on the society's website: http://www.moniteau.net/hsoclib.htm.
