As a part of its ongoing security and safety training program, the City of California Police Department conducted an "active shooter" training session for area day care providers Wednesday, May 13. The session was conducted at the California City Hall in the meeting room by Capt. Dale Embry and Sgt. Scott Harkins.

The training was designed to be taught by law enforcement personnel to members of private and public sector agencies or establishments which may have an active shooter or intruder incident at their facility.

The class objectives included the development of, and practical application of emergency action plans. The session also included a presentation of weapons identification, how to relay information to 911 and what information to give.

The program also included information on the response of law enforcement to an actual incident.

The training, approved by the division of Health and Senior Services, assists child care providers in meeting the mandatory training requirements.

The City of California Police Department provides no-cost training on many different topics. If there is a need for training, contact the department at 573-796-2818.
