"Candles for Kaleb' scheduled for today in Russellville

"Candles for Kaleb," a candlelight memorial service for Kaleb Libbert will begin at 8 p.m. today at the Russellville High School baseball/softball field.

Visitation is from 3:30-8 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

Libbert, 20, Centertown, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Cory Libbert, 17, Centertown. The former was hanging onto the passenger side of the vehicle and was ejected from the vehicle going around a curve, according to Missouri Highway Patrol Reports.

The fatal accident occurred at 1:14 a.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Simpson Street, Russellville.

Kaleb Libbert was a soldier in the U.S. Army and was a firefighter in training with the Russellville-Lohman Fire Protection District.

Other community events are being organized in memory of the well-liked, storyteller and friend, as well as to support his family left behind.

The Kaleb Libbert Softball Memorial will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Russellville Lions Club field. The event, intended to become annual, will include a home run derby and softball tournament and proceeds will support a scholarship to go to a multi-sport athlete with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

"Kaleb was a very honorable young man, he served in our military leaving shortly after he graduated from Russellville in 2014," the softball event page said. "He was looked up to by many, and befriended any one he came in contact with.

"His endless love and support for everyone in the community will always be instilled in all that knew this very bright young man."
