“I think it’s awesome,” said Kurt Birdsong of California. “We need to get God back into everything.”

“I think it’s very appropriate,” said Marna Wiliams of Tipton. “God needs to watch over all of us.”

“As far as I think, it’s the proper thing to do,” said Marilyn Koechner of Tipton.

What are they talking about?

They’re talking about – and agreeing wholeheartedly with – the new inscription on the side of the Moniteau Sheriff’s Department’s vehicles that reads: “In God We Trust.”

The new inscription started with a resolution last year at the 2015 Missouri Sheriff’s Association Summer Conference which encouraged all sheriffs in Missouri to display the words “In God We Trust” on all patrol vehicles.

“After thinking on this, I decided that I totally agreed,” said Sheriff Jay Gump of the Moniteau Sheriff’s Department. “My thoughts are that by displaying the county name, the state seal, and the nation’s motto all together, it is somwhat symbolic showing that all levels of government must be on the same page and work together.”

In addition, Sheriff Gump believes that America was born a faith-based nation. As sheriff, he intends on doing his part to remind everyone of that by displaying this new inscription.

“If the day ever comes that ‘In God We Trust’ is no longer important,” Sheriff Gump said, “then we’re going to be in big trouble.”
