California Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner nets over $4,800 for scholarships

Newly elected president of the California Area Chamber of Commerce Amanda Trimble called the monthly meeting to order Thursday.

Minutes from the January board meeting were reviewed and approved.

Jenny Brown, treasurer, presented the treasurer's report, as well, as the annual dinner and scholarship budgets. Auction items and cash donations received netted the scholarship fund $4,819. Trimble recognized the annual dinner committee and chairperson, Rita Hammerly, for an excellent job in planning and executing the dinner.

Sandra Ratcliff, Executive Secretary, distributed a written report in the member's packets listing events at the Chamber office for the previous month.

Trimble shared with the board she and others had attended a CPI meeting on Feb. 9. CPI will be sponsoring an event on March 19 and the Chamber has been invited to participate. The Chamber agreed to participate by alerting all members of the opportunity of the event on that day. Other support will be offered as needed.

The Moniteau County Librarian, Connie Walker, requested to speak to the board regarding the two percent levy increase that will be proposed on the ballot in April. The board agreed to have her speak at the March board meeting.

The board members decided to sponsor a California Girl to attend Girl's State this summer.

The board members have been contacted regarding the 150th Moniteau County. After discussion, it was agreed to have a float in the fair parade to be held at 5 p.m. on July 30. The parade theme is "Pride, Progress, Tradition."

Becky Lawson shared the scholarship information had been given to the high school counselor. The Chamber, in conjunction with all members, will present six scholarships of $750 to California seniors in May.

Cale Brown, Commerce Bank, announced the date for the Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday, March 19, with a rain date of March 26. It will be held at Proctor Park at 1 p.m.

Dwight Sanders shared the date for the annual golf tournament will be June 8. The committee is looking for teams, hole sponsors and volunteers to help the day of the event.

Brad Baer shared the Ozark Ham and Turkey Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 17. Regular monthly planning meetings will be held the first Monday of each month starting on March 7, at 5:30 p.m., in the city hall meeting room. All persons interested in helping with this event are encouraged to attend.

Norris Gerhart shared the "Welcome to California" sign project has been approved by MoDot and is moving along.

The next California Area Chamber of Commerce Board meeting will be held Thursday, March 10, at 8 a.m. in the California City Hall meeting room.
