Moniteau County approves sales tax holiday for new appliances

Shopping for appliances in April in Moniteau County may save you a little green thanks to an ordinance passed by the Moniteau County Commission.

County commissioners approved an ordinance Feb. 21 that created a local sales tax holiday between April 19 and 25 for those shopping for new appliances.

The "Show Me Green Sales Tax Holiday" is designed to encourage residents to purchase energy efficient appliances.

Appliances eligible for the sales-tax exemption must show the Energy Star label and can include washing machines, dryers, water heaters, trash compactors, dishwashers, conventional ovens, ranges, stoves, air conditioners, furnaces, refrigerators and freezers.

The ordinance states the tax holiday will allow a local sales tax exemption for Energy Star certified new appliances up to $1,500 per appliance.

Moniteau County stores where the sales tax holiday will apply include: Nivens TV and Appliance in Jamestown, National TV Sales and Rental in California, Bob's Furniture in Tipton, Rehagen Heating, Cooling and Plumbing in California, and Sorrells Service Company LLC in Jamestown.
