California Wrestling takes home two medals in Sedalia Tournament

California High School wrestling won two medals at Sedalia's Battle of the Katy Trail on Friday and Saturday.

The Pintos' team made history during the Sedalia tournament.

In their third appearance at the Battle of the Katy Trail, Camryn Wingate won California's first ever first place medal at the tournament by going 6-0 on the day in the 105 pound bracket. Wingate defeated Lillan Watchinski, of Plattsburg; Kenya Reberry, of Excelsior Springs; Klara Keeter, of Versailles; Taryn Hearn, of Cameron; Lillian McCleary, of Lone Jack; and Norah Watkins, of Rock Port.

Ivy Scroggins gave California another medal by finishing fifth place in the 170 pound bracket with a 3-2 record. Scroggins defeated Karalena Steinhauser, of Lexington; Karisa Hayden, of Mexico; and Madycen Hedgpeth, of Cameron.

At 130 pounds, Fulks went 4-3 on the weekend with wins over Emily Sprouse, of Carrollton; Piper Layton, of Excelsior Springs; Leah Nugent, of Versailles; and Jamila Juma, of Centralia. At 190 pounds, Ivee Cooper went 2-4 with wins over Amarachi Ibeagu, of Piper, and Tessa Higgins, of Mexico.

For the Pintos, Tayln Balsley went 2-4 at 106 pounds with wins over Eli Borcherding, of North Callaway, and Cruz Prieto, of Carrolton. At 113 pounds, Farmer went 3-4 with wins over Sylas Fletcher, of El Dorado Springs; Thomas Kremer, of Fatima; and Trayton Hook, of Lone Jack. At 120 pounds, McCarty went 1-4 over Hudson Jones of Plattsburg.

At 126 pounds, Patrick Morrow went 4-4 on the weekend and finished in eighth place with wins over Chase Hampton of Windsor; JD Summers, of Lathrop; John Beilbdre, of Tipton; and Noah Lovel, of Lone Jack.

At 132 pounds, Martinez went 4-3 with wins over John Higgins of North Callaway, Brendon Hoover of South Harrison, Angel Nunez-Perez of Piper and Jace Harms of Maysville.

At 144 pounds, Barnard went 3-4 with wins over Walter Olmstead of Trenton, Ryan Handgen of West Platte and Cameron Martin of Albany.

At 150 pounds, Tristan Balsley went 5-3 on the weekend with wins over Reagan Heyde, of Stanberry; Zane Rippy, of Albany; Laramie Fenimore, of Gallatin; Bridger Grimshaw, of Brookfield; and Samuel Rosine, of Knob Noster. At 175 pounds, Cody Schneider went 3-3 with wins over Ian Yoss, of Adrian; Garrett Pap, of Lone Jack; and Gavin Crump, of Sherwood.

California will be back in action at the Steve Johnson Invitational in Jefferson City on Dec. 23.
