Missouri's minimum wage is increasing to $12.30 per hour in 2024.

Minimum wage workers will earn an extra 30 cents per hour beginning Jan. 1, according to the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. The increase is tied to cost-of-living changes reflected in the Consumer Price Index.

Missouri's minimum wage increased by 85 cents annually for five years after voters passed Proposition B in 2018, bringing the minimum wage to $12 in 2023. As required by the proposition, 2024 marks the first time the state's minimum wage increase is tied to cost-of-living changes reflected in the Consumer Price Index for urban wage earners and clerical workers.

All private businesses will be required to pay an hourly rate of at least $12.30 in 2024, except retail and service businesses with fewer than $500,000 in gross annual sales. The new minimum wage does not apply to public employers.

Employers with tipped workers are required to pay those employees at least $6.15 per hour, plus any amount necessary to bring the total compensation to a minimum of $12.30 per hour.

Fifteen states pay a minimum wage higher than $12.30 per hour, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Missouri's minimum wage is well above the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour, which 15 states use.
