Dania’s dream of med school
After a spur-of-the-moment fall road trip to Harvard University for a campus visit, Dania Isidro realized her dream of medical school at the prestigious post-secondary institution was possible.
The California Junior-Senior Prom was held Saturday, April 23, at the Capitol Ritz, Jefferson City.
The line of cars with parents dropping off their junior high students at the High Point Dance wrapped around the school baseball field and extended far enough west on Route C that the Missouri Highway Patrol was there to assist.
Charlie Barker, 4, loves playing computer games at the Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place. One of his favorites is “Dora the Explorer.” But he wasn’t able to enjoy them the way the computers were previously arranged in the children’s section.
Moniteau County rural residents in the western library subdistrict may soon have the opportunity to access the Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place without a membership.
The California R-I School Board met a week early to see to the swearing in of new school board member Derek VanLoo for his first term and incumbent Rhonda Meyer for her second three-year term. The meeting was in the high school library media room April 13.
Moniteau County R-1 recently held its Employee Appreciation Luncheon at the California High School Commons. A luncheon was served to honor faculty, staff and board members.
An academic awards assembly for California High School grades 9-12 will begin at 8:30 a.m. April 20 in the performing arts center.
According to California Elementary fourth-grade teacher Kelli Williams, a small act of kindness triggered a “pay-it forward” effect in Williams’ classroom week.

Before California Middle School seventh-graders Lauren Spillars and Megan VanLoo grabbed electrified wires during a hands-on science lab, they used the classroom’s 1:1 Chromebooks to create a virtual electric circuit.
