More dancing, more music and more creativity - that's what familiar audiences can expect from the Gillam Family Illusions' performance at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Performing Arts Center in Jefferson City.

For nearly a decade, the family of four have brought their nationwide talents to a local venue to support the Council for Drug-Free Youth.

The Gillams are fond of this local show, sharing their talents with their neighbors and community. It's one of the few of more than 50 in a year's time where the family doesn't have far to travel with their array of props.

Because this is an annual event, the Gillams conscientiously redesign their show each year.

Saturday's audience can expect swords, predictions, comedy, juggling, music, dancing and the family dog, Holly.

"We're building illusions, just for this show, that we've never done before," Aaron Gillam said. "This show allows us to push what we've done before and come up with new things."

It takes up to four months to create and perfect a new trick, and it's often a collaborative effort.

As the Gillam children, Marie and David, have grown older and more talented, the family show has also grown to reflect that.

"Our show has evolved so much," Denise said. "It's a lot different than in 2010, when David was 8 and Marie was 10."

Marie not only provides dancing entertainment, she also develops the show's overall choreography.

"I like to put my own spin on things, learning by trial and error," she said.

David's violin adds a live music element, while he continues to grow his involvement on the illusion side.

"Magic is letting your imagination run wild," he said.

Tickets are $5 and are available in advance from Southbank and Samuel's Tuxedos and Gifts or at the door of the Miller center, located at 501 Madison St.
