A storm accompanying a wide-ranging front which came through about 6 a.m. Thursday, July 7, was mainly a wind storm accompanied by some rain. As the storm rolled through, the skies darkened. Since the power went out about that time, it was really inconvenient for local residents fixing breakfast or getting ready for work. The power was out in the California area for about an hour before Ameren Missouri crews restored it.

There was some tree damage. Tree limbs were blown down on a house at the corner of Walnut and Oak streets. A limb fell on a power line on Howard St. near Randolph St. Several limbs were blown down on Churchill Dr. On Roache St., across from Lake St., a backyard tent was on the roof of a house after the storm.

"Most of the debris on the streets was just twigs and leaves blown down and scattered," said Dale Kirchner, employee of the California Street Department.

A small tornado is believed to have been sighted as it destroyed a barn and did other damage north of California, on Little Moniteau Rd. north of California.

Another storm moved through early Friday, July 8, awaking many residents with thunder and lightning while dropping about an inch and half of rain.
