The newest well, Well 9, of the City of California, was dedicated Friday, May 20, with a ribbon cutting by the California Area Chamber of Commerce.

The new well house is the best of the well houses of the city according to water department personnel. The new water tower is 600,000 gallons. The million-gallon water tower on Russellville Road is currently being rehabilitated and should be back in service in a month or so. The well is 1,200 feet deep. The 175 horsepower pump is 500 feet deep. Engineer Bob Gilbert said the new well may be the best producing well in the state.

Present for the occasion of the ribbon-cutting were members of the California Area Chamber of Commerce, City of California Board of Aldermen, city officials and employees past and present, school superintendent Dwight Sanders, construction company representatives and representatives of Bartlett and West Engineers. Engineer Bob Gilbert said the new well may be the best producing well in the state.

Appreciation was expressed to the School Board and the Mouse family, both of which allowed additional ground for building the well and tower. The city owned part of the ground the tower and well were built on, but other ground was necessary for the well, well house and the road to the well house. Ameren Missouri also placed much taller poles at the entrance of the road to allow the equipment to come through.
