Closed campus at California schools due to threatening post

The California School District went to "closed campus" operations Friday. According to Superintendent Dwight Sanders, a threatening message posted on social media sites was not specific.

"It was a very general post, not specific to a date or location," Sanders said. "No official source indicates any legitimacy at this point. The date of the posting is unknown. It may have been posted six months ago and just now seen.

"The Sheriff's Department and California City Police felt there was no imminent danger," he said. "Just as a precaution, it was decided to go into a closed campus environment."

A "closed campus" means there are no outdoor student activities, such as recess, P.E. or lunch at the outdoor tables at the elementary and middle school Owen Street campus. On Friday, the high school A+ tutors did not go to the Owen Street campus.

Adults still moved freely around the campuses. As a precaution, local law enforcement maintained a presence at the schools.
