Jefferson City woman charged with kidnapping

A Jefferson City woman has been charged in connection with an assault that occurred last week in Cole County.

Koranda Norwood, 32, is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping.

The assault occurred last Wednesday in the 5400 block of West Business 50, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement.

Deputies were called for a disturbance and found a female victim with a stab wound in the upper arm and multiple face contusions.

The victim later identified Norwood out of a photo line up as the person she said assaulted her by punching her repeatedly in the head, but she was unable to say who stabbed her.

A witness said he saw Norwood and the victim wrestling over a knife but was unsure how the victim was stabbed. The witness said Norwood beat the victim four or five times with pauses in between.

Norwood came to the sheriff's department to make a statement and told investigators there was a fight at her mobile home between herself and the victim - but that it was the victim who was the aggressor, not Norwood. She said she was defending herself and denied she would not let the victim leave the home.

Nothing in the probable cause statement indicates what started the fight.
