Norris Gerhart

Incumbent Norris Gerhart has been mayor of California for 16 years. He is being challenged on the April 4 city ballot by Charlie Roll.

Here are Gerhart's answers to the following questions.

Q. What is your experience as it relates to the office?

A. As current mayor serving 16 years, and previous councilman, I believe my record proves that I am capable and willing to serve the people of California again. My heart is in serving this town. Not only as mayor, but also as a business owner for 38 years.

Q. What is your view of the officeholder in relationship to the citizens and communities of Moniteau County?

A. As mayor, you are accountable for all citizens. I'm committed to the growth and wellbeing of California. To do this, you must always keep your eyes open to the big picture and never be narrow minded when it comes to what the town needs. The citizens of California have something no neighboring community has, pride and ownership of the town. California owns and operates our electric, water, sewer, and trash services, and provides awesome parks and recreation services. These services bring our community together, providing pride and ownership. It is important that the mayor helps strengthen and lead these positions.

Q. What is the major issue of importance which can be addressed by this office?

A. Being mayor comes with many issues, one being maintaining a strict budget. I'm committed to keeping the costs of living down and maintaining a safe place to live and raise a family, while still offering the services we have grown accustomed to. The mayor also overseas the daily activities of California, including daily discussions with supervisors, employees and citizens.

I'm committed to overseeing and communicating daily with the people of California.

Q. What do you expect to achieve if elected to this office in April?

A. If re-elected, my goal is to continue improving our quality of life in what I consider the greatest town in Missouri. This includes over-seeing the sewer improvement project, major street repairs, and continuing park improvements. I would also continue to support the businesses and economics of California. Most importantly, I would continue to serve California as I have for the past 16 years, listening to and acting on all the concerns and issues in our town.
