The Jefferson City Police Department, through funding provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway and Traffic Safety Division as well as the Missouri Safety Center, will join other statewide law enforcement agencies Sept. 17-23, 2017 for the Child Passenger Safety Week enforcement campaign.

This enforcement effort is targeted at reducing serious injuries and fatalities to children involved in crashes and to increase compliance with Missouri's child safety seat laws, according to a JCPD news release.

Missouri law requires all children under age 8 to be in an appropriate child safety or booster seat. If the child is at least 80 pounds or more and at least 4-foot-9 tall, the child can then be placed in a properly attached and secured safety belt.

Booster seats reduce the risk of serious injury by 45 percent for children ages 4-8 when compared to only using a seat belt, according to the JCPD release.
