Tipton School Board told MAP results delayed

Tipton school Superintendent Terry Robinson informed the board at the regular Sept. 11 meeting that MAP results had been delayed. There were problems with Algebra I and English II assessments. Results may be available within a month.

He also updated the board on some of the electronic upgrades and possible construction work upcoming. CAT 6 cable is being installed throughout the school district's buildings. This effort to improve the electronics in the school is partially funded by E-rate money.

Some problems with the security cameras, recently installed, are being corrected.

Bids are being solicited to repair the long-jump runway, as well as, possibly paving of the nearby gravel parking lot and an area of the elementary playground.

In addition, he reported that bids were being sought for an icemaker for the football field concession area.

Katie Seigel, director of student services, reported that 104 students are receiving special education services, an increase of three from last year. There are 57 students in the area, 42 from the Tipton schools, receiving speech service assistance.

There are 29 students identified as being homeless, many more than last year. This means the students are either living with other families, or living in a motel or camper.

Elementary school enrollment was 287, while grades 7-12 enrollment was given as 311.
