Jefferson City man gets probation for kidnapping

A Jefferson City man has been placed on probation for pleading guilty to a charge of first-degree kidnapping for an incident that occurred in January.

However, if Crystopher Wright, 33, is found to have violated any of the conditions of his probation, Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce ordered he would have to serve a 10-year prison sentence.

Wright also was put on probation for pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree domestic assault in this case. Joyce ordered that he must serve a 60-day shock detention as part of his probation, with credit for time already served.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Madison Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Wright and the victim had been in an ongoing relationship for several years. The victim was planning to go on a trip with a female friend, but Wright suspected the woman was cheating on him.

Wright and the victim had been arguing since the night before; and when she tried to leave the residence, Wright grabbed her from behind, ripped her jacket and threw her down onto a bed. He then tied the victim's wrists and ankles with scarves and blindfolded her with a scarf. Wright also tied a dog leash to the bed post and door so the door could not be opened.

The victim was able to loosen the scarf around her wrist, but Wright grabbed electric cords and tied her wrists and ankles with those. He then began to strike the victim with a belt, threatened to kill the woman if she went to police, and said he would kill her children.

Wright eventually wrapped the belt around the victim's throat, got on top of her and had her face down in a pillow. To get him to stop, the victim told Wright she would give him her entire next paycheck. She also convinced him their relationship would be OK. Wright then untied the woman's wrists, but not her ankles, and forced her to lie in the bed with him.

After some time the woman fell asleep, and when she awoke about two hours later Wright had left the apartment.
