4 entered in Miss Moniteau contest

The Miss Moniteau County Scholarship Contest will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Moniteau County Fairgrounds.

Contestants must be U.S. citizens, female residents of Moniteau County, ages 16-21 and single.

The Little Mr. and Miss Moniteau County contest, for ages 3-5 who live in Moniteau County, will be held following the queen contest.

Those entered in the Miss Moniteau contest are Emily Strein, Jamestown; Halle Oliver, California; Sarah Rex, Tipton; and Alyssa Sabartinelli, California.

EMILY ROSE STREIN

Strein is the daughter of Tammie Strein and Douglas Strein, Jamestown. She is a 2018 graduate of Jamestown High School and plans to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia in the fall.

Strein plans to major in biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. After receiving her degree, she hopes to go on to medical school and become a plastic surgeon and specialize in trauma reconstruction, burns or cleft palates.

She owns and operates a small business, Emily's Geraniums, which was selected as the top nursery operation in her area. Her other small business is Cutting Edge, where she handcrafts and designs customized cutting boards.

She began dancing at age 3 and was asked to join a competitive team at age 7. She was named All-American Dance with the opportunity to perform in London, England.

Her high school activities included cheer and the Sapphires Dance Team, where she was captain of both. Other sports include basketball and track and field.

Strein was in several organizations and held offices in National Honor Society as secretary, FFA as secretary, FBLA as reporter, student council as treasurer and senior class as secretary.

She was Homecoming Queen in 2018 and 2017 Barnwarming Queen.

She was on the Principal's Honor Roll all four years of high school and received the Citizen of the Month twice.

Strein qualified and placed at state three years in FFA competitions, including FFA Knowledge, floriculture and forestry. She attended the Missouri Leadership Seminar, as well as Mizzou Mini-Med School.

HALLE OLIVER

Oliver is the daughter of Gary and Jana Oliver, California. She is a 2018 graduate of California High School and will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she will be in the honors college studying agribusiness management, ag economy and public policy.

She hopes to graduate college with honors and then attend law school.

While in high school, she was involved in cross country, basketball, Spanish Club, student council, drama club, chamber choir and Young Republican Club. She participated in both the fall musical and the spring play and was a member of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

She also was in National Honor Society, serving as president. And, she held offices as secretary, vice president and president of the FFA Chapter, as well as area FFA officer for two years.

Her hobbies include playing the violin. She is a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City.

SARAH LYNN REX

Rex is the daughter of Michael and Tammy Rex, Tipton. She will be a senior at Tipton High School.

She has been a cheeleader four years of high school for both the football and basketball teams.

Rex is a member of FBLA.

She enjoys singing, musicals and photography.

She has been involved in FFA and 4-H. She is a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Tipton.

Rex was crowned Miss Tipton 2018.

After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, to study radio broadcasting and history.

ALYSSA K. SABARTINELLI

Sabartinelli is the daughter of Aaron Sabartinelli and Krystal Davis, California. She will be a junior at California High School.

She is involved with Sounds of Joy, concert choir and conference choir.

Sabartinelli is on student council and served as freshman class president.

She is in National Honor Society and a cheerleader, an All-American.

She also is a member of the Stingrays swim team and a lifeguard.

Sabartinelli attends the United Church of Christ.

In the future, she would like to pursue a career path where she can help others and be a positive part of their lives.
