MRED continues work on apprenticeship program

The Moniteau County Regional Economic Development Council is working on making young people aware of work opportunities in the local area. At the monthly meeting on June 20, at Burgher Haus, President Mike Kelley reported on the work being done to continue forward with the Moniteau County Apprenticeship Program. The program helps prepare graduates for future careers in Moniteau County businesses.

According to Kelley, there is funding for 16 apprentices. He would prefer to spend 90 percent of the money in the next year. The final plan is needed for new employers in August.

There are several companies being worked with on the apprenticeship program. One is in the process of getting in the program. Another actually has an apprenticeship program and is working on getting its' program on the approved apprenticeship program.

The next LaunchU event will be held at the Co-Mo facility, because of the accommodations.

Among those in attendance were Joy Wheatfall, Lincoln University director of Missouri Small Business Development Center; Jeannie Lake, Missouri Division of Workforce Development; and Lincoln Brown, Mid-Mo Regional Planning Commission.

The next meeting is July 11 at the Downtown Cafe, Tipton.
