2 dead in third Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA (AP) - Police in Columbia are investigating a weekend shooting that killed two men and wounded a third person.

Meanwhile, two people have been charged in a shooting last week that left a woman dead and another wounded.

Jeffery D. Jones, 26, of Milwaukee, died at the scene of the shooting about 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Police said 32-year-old Michael J. Walker Jr., of Columbia, died later at a hospital.

Police said officers responding to a report of gunfire found the victims inside a sport utility vehicle.

The medical status of the third victim was not immediately clear Monday.

There was no immediate word on any arrests or charges.

In the other incident, two Columbia men are charged in a shooting in which bullets went through the wall of a home, killing one woman and wounding another.

Darold Pruitt and Devontre Kennedy were charged Monday with second-degree murder in the death last week of 25-year-old Shamya Brimmage. They're also charged with second-degree assault and shooting a firearm from a motor vehicle at a habitable structure. Bond is set at $1 million. No attorneys are listed for them in online court records.

The deadly shooting followed one several hours earlier in which no one was hurt.

Court records said Pruitt told police he was the first shooting's target and that Kennedy took him to work afterward. But Kennedy offered a conflicting account, and surveillance video didn't corroborate Pruitt's story.
