Staff Sgt. Brant M. Kunze awarded commendation medal

Staff Sgt. Brant M. Kunze, has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal with "V" device. The award was made on Nov. 21, 2010, for actions in Afghanistan on Aug. 31, 2010.

According to the citation, Kunze was awarded the medal for "valorous actions while conducting a counter attack." He "displayed exceptional bravery and disregard for his own safety" while with his unit, B Troop, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry regiment.

According to other sources, the Army Commendation Medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who have distinguished themself by heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service. The "V" device indicates the medal is for valour.

Kunze is son of Mark and Margie Kunze, California, and grandson of Kenneth and Doris Kunze, California, and Nancy Bell, Palmetto, Fla.
