California FFA Holds Annual Awards Banquet

The FFA hosted its annual Awards Banquet in the high school commons on Thursday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m. This is where all the contest teams and individuals received awards for their hard work.

The FFA members and their parents were served a dinner of pork steaks, salads of all kinds and desserts. They also got to view a video put together by seniors Caleb Martin, Trenton Hall and Justin Clad.

"We wanted the video to show the audience what FFA has accomplished this school year," said Clad.

The students and guests were also privileged to hear Senior Andrea Knipp sing the national anthem and Jessica Kueffer, a 2010 graduate and a State Officer, discuss the ways FFA has helped her through her high school and college years.

The members who received State Degrees at the state convention in Columbia were recognized for their achievement. These members were Meghan Halsey, Justin Clad, Caleb Martin and Dawn Chapman. Their parents also received Honorary FFA Degree plaques.

"Recognizing the parents of State Degree recipients with Honorary Degrees is a long-standing California tradition," said FFA Adviser Adam Bieri. "Many of them contribute a lot of time and family resources to the students' projects."

Contest teams, such as livestock judging, equine judging, and dairy teams also received awards for their competition results.

Meghan Halsey received the Star Chapter Placement Award, Libby Martin was honored as Star Greenhand, William Inglish received the Star Chapter Farmer Award and Caleb Martin was the recipient of the DeKalb Award.

At the end of the ceremony, the officers for the 2010-2011 school year stepped down from their offices and the new officers for the 2011-2012 school year were installed.

"Our banquet requires a great deal of planning and effort, but recognizing the students for their hard work and success is important," said Lee Longan, FFA Adviser.
