Cole County R-1 School Board Meets in June, July

The Cole County R-1 School Board held its June monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 19.

Under new business, the Board adopted the agenda, administrators presented their reports and voted to approve the consent agenda as presented. The Board approved a payroll fund transfer of $485,000.

The Board approved the 2012-2013 budget and salary schedules, and amended the 2011-2012 budget. The Board also approved amending the 2012-2013 school calendar, eliminated the August Back to School Staff Dinner and voted to approve Pantone 287-C as the Official Royal Blue School Color.

The Board voted to transport only school age students from kindergarten through 12th grade on the school buses.

In closed session, the Board voted to accept a letter of resignation from Robin Gier and voted to employ Carol Koestner, elementary secretary, Bert Koestner, part-time cook, Joanna Andrew, first grade teacher, Donna O'Neal, elementary music teacher and Christina Spencer-Hess, high school English teacher.

The Cole County R-I School Board then held its July monthly meeting Thursday, July 19.

The Board set the Tax Rate Hearing for Aug. 16, at 6:15 p.m., in the high school library, followed by the August monthly School Board Meeting.

It was reported the third phase of the new track project is nearly complete. The poles and lights have been installed. The light system was tested on July 17, and everything worked well. The lights have been programmed to be controlled in four zones to maximize energy savings. The light system can be controlled remotely by computer and cell phone.

The Board voted to increase the price of school meals to help offset the loss in the food service program and increase the price of extra milk by five cents for the 2012-2013 school year. The Board approved the Board policy updates as presented and required by law and to accept the milk bid from Prairie Farms, the bread bid from IBC Bread and the chip bid from Springfield Grocer. Also approved by the Board were the School Resource Officer contract with Cole County for the 2012-2013 school year and the Surplus Property List as presented.

In closed session, the Board voted to accept the resignation of Dona Anderson.
