Ground was broken Saturday morning, May 26, for the new expansion of the Moniteau County Historical Society.
The genealogy library research center expansion will be added to the west end of the current building and will extend about 60 feet. The current building was renovated by California Progress, Inc. (CPI) and became the Moniteau County Historical Society in 1994. before that time, the library consisted of three file drawers in a single file cabinet. By 1995, the 20 by 24 foot reading room was too small. It has continued growing and a recent acquisition made it necessary for an additional expansion.
