Russellville places second at Linn Tourney

The Russellville High School varsity softball team participated in the 13th Annual Linn Softball Tournament Sept. 22, where the Lady Indians lost the championship game to Iberia 11-1 to finish the tourney in second place.

Hill recorded the loss against Linn with three strikeouts. Hannah Campbell led Russellville hits with two singles and one RBI. Adrianna Basnett, Katie Wolken, Hill and Kaitlyn Bungart each contributed a single.

Previously in the tournament, Russellville defeated St. Clair 7-5 in first-round action. Hill pitched the win with two strikeouts. Koestner, Wolken, Campbell and Hill each had a single.

Russellville then faced Bell in the semifinal round, and won 5-3. Hill recorded the win with 12 strikeouts.

"Miranda pitched a great game," Russellville Coach Trisha Black said. "I'm very happy with how the girls played."

Campbell led Russellville hits with a triple and two doubles and three RBI. Basnett followed with a single.

Russellville hosted South Callaway Sept. 24, where the Lady Indians captured a 5-1 win. Hill pitched the win with two strikeouts. Campbell led Russellville hits with a triple, a single and one RBI. Micayla Gilmore, Koestner and Amberlyn Grellner each contributed a single.

"South Callaway hit the ball really well, but we played great defense and got out of a lot of tough sitauations," Black said. "I'm very proud of how well the girls played."

Previously, the Lady Indians traveled to Linn Sept. 18, where they defeated the Lady Wildcats 10-6. Miranda Hill recorded the win with five strikeouts.

Gilmore led Russellville hits with two doubles and three RBI. Campbell followed with a double and one RBI.

Russellville hosted Tuscumbia Sept. 20, where the Lady Indians captured a win, 11-1. Hill pitched the win with five strikeouts.

Koestner led Russellville hits with a single and three RBI. Wolken and Campbell each had a double and two RBI and Jamie Webster had a double and a single.

Russellville's varsity will participate in the Class 2 District 13 Tournament Oct. 3-5 at Eugene, beginning with a contest against Stover at 6:30 p.m. today (Wednesday). The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday.
