Secretary of State Jason Kander today announced the California Subdistrict of the Moniteau County Library received a Nonfiction Collection Makeover Grant in the amount of $2,000.
The funds are provided to help public libraries strengthen nonfiction collections. These collection development purchases expand both quality and availability of library services appropriate to meet the educational, cultural, intellectual, personal and social development needs of Missourians.
"We're lucky Missouri has such a rich network of local public libraries throughout the state," Kander said. "Strong local libraries provide Missourians access to new resources and information right in their own communities. With this federal grant funding, Moniteau County Library will be able to provide Missourians with even better access to information and educational resources."
The secretary of state's nonfiction collection grants are funded by the Library Services and Technology Act through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's
mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.
In the 2013 Fiscal Year, the Missouri State Library has approved a total of 127 grant applications, distributing $711,225 in federal awards to libraries throughout Missouri.
