California to host Farmers Market

The first organized farmers market will be held in California on Railroad Avenue alongside Smith-Burke Park. The event will be held Friday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. This mini market is open at no charge to local and surrounding county vendors who may sell produce and crafts.

Food items must be covered under a canopy and sold in accordance with food handling regulations. Vendors may sell from pickup trucks at this trial event. No pets are allowed.

The area will be open for vendor setup at 3 p.m. Spots are open on a first come basis.This is a trial event in preparation for regular markets that will begin April, 2014.

There will be charges and registration for vendors next year. This market is a serious undertaking and vendors and customers are urged to submit ideas and suggestions. The committee will be identifiable and located in the park gazebo. This farmers market is a product of the California Historic District goals.
