The California High School track team competed at the Boonville Invitational April 17, where a number of Pintos and Lady Pintos were top finishers in their events.
Other participating teams were Boonville, Chillicothe, Richmond, Fulton, Odessa, Marshall and Holden.
"Our boys got second place with 159 points, behind a very good Chillicothe team that finished with 172 points," California Coach Rick Edwards said. "Our boys' team is clicking right now.Â We're scoring points in every event."
Edwards added, "This was the best competition we've seen all year, and it was good to be able to compete against this level. I thought we performed well."Â
Individual results for the California boys are as follows. In the 100 Meter, Walker Borghardt placed fifth with 11.7, and AJ Kendrick seventh, 11.9; 110 Meter Hurdles, Dylan Norton seventh, 18.0; 200 Meter, Borghardt fifth, 24.3, and Kendrick sixth, 24.4; 300 Meter Hurdles, Norton first, 40.0, and Gunner Baquet sixth, 47.6; 400 Meter, Dylan Albertson first, 53.8, and Conner George fourth, 54.5; 800 Meter, Benigno Corona third, 2:12, and Ethan Hodges sixth, 2:16; and 1600 Meter, Adam Burkett third, 5:05.
In the 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Seth Fairchild, Sam Cummings, Phillip Strobel and Kendrick placed fifth with 48.0; 4x200 Meter Relay, team of Fairchild, Norton, Strobel and Kendrick placed third, 1:42; 4x400 Meter Relay, team of Albertson, Corona, George and Norton placed first, 3:38; 4x800 Meter Relay, team of Jacob Collier, Micaiah Garcia, Burkett and Hodges placed sixth.
"Our lifting program really helps our boy track athletes," Edwards said. "It makes them faster, more explosive, and they don't wear down at the end of the season."Â
In the High Jump event, Allan Burger placed sixth with 5'4", and Sam Cummings seventh, 5'4"; Long Jump, Borghardt first, 20'9", and Kendrick second, 19'9"; Triple Jump, Borghardt first, 41'10", and Baquet fifth, 38'7"; Pole Vault, Luke Burger second, 11'6", and Allan Burger third, 10'6"; Shot Put, Nathan Squires first, 45'7", and Ramiro Garcia third, 43'6"; and Discus Throw, Garcia fifth, 127'11", and Alexx Lewis sixth, 127'.
"We have a few boys' events that we've pointed in at every meet," Edwards said. "Walker and AJ have pointed in every long jump this season, as have Walker and Gunner in the triple jump.Â Our three throwers in the boys' division, Nathan, Ramiro and Alexx, have also pointed in every meet this year."Â
Individual results for the California girls are as follows. In the 100 Meter, Ellie Wirts placed third with 13.7; 200 Meter, Wirts second, 28.2; 400 Meter, Jackie Gammon eighth, 1:18; 800 Meter, Katie Imhoff fourth, 2:47, and Laney Porter seventh, 2:55; 300 Meter Hurdles, Jasmine Wells fourth, 51.7, and Kayla Allison eighth, 53.0.
"Ellie Wirts has pointed in every 100 and 200 this season," Edwards said.Â "Kayla Allison has pointed every meet and so have Katie Imhoff, Jasmine Wells, Audrey Pickering and Cameron Meyer."
In the 4x100 Meter Relay, the team of Mattea Adams, Gammon, Haley Admire and Rosie Swillum placed seventh with 59.6; 4x200 Meter Relay, team of Adams, Gammon, Emily Thibon and Swillum placed seventh, 2:05; 4x400 Meter Relay, team of Wells, Allison, Imhoff and Porter placed fourth, 4:47.
In the Long Jump event, Wirts placed eighth with 13'; Triple Jump, Wirts fourth, 30'6", and Wells seventh, 30'5"; Pole Vault, Allison fourth, 7'6"; Shot Put, Audrey Pickering second, 32'8"; and Discus Throw, Pickering seventh, 87'3".
"Katie Imhoff and Laney Porter went all out in this meet," Edwards said. "They ran the 3200 and turned right around and ran the 4x400 the very next race. That helped out the team, and as a coach I like to see that effort and attitude."
The CHS track team competed at the Osage Invitational April 22, where Edwards said, "Due to our training, our times were a little slower at this meet, which was expected, but our kids did a good job competing."
Other participating teams were St. James, Versailles, Eldon, Osage, Fulton, Helias and Boonville.
Individual results for the California girls are as follows. In the 100 Meter event, Wirts placed fifth with 13.7; 200 Meter, Wirts first, 28.15; 300 Meter Hurdles, Wells fifth, 52.5, and Allison eighth, 54.6; 800 Meter, Imhoff seventh, 2:45; 1600 Meter, Imhoff sixth, 5:53, and Porter eighth, 6:45.
In the 4x400 Meter Relay, the team of Allison, Libby Martin, Wells and Imhoff placed fourth with 4:43; Pole Vault, Allison fourth, 7'6"; Shot Put, Pickering fourth, 34'10", and Beth Davis seventh, 31'; Discus Throw, Cameron Meyer second, 93'2", and Pickering sixth, 82'1".
"Audrey Pickering pr'd by almost two feet in the shot put and Cameron Meyer had a nice pr in the discus throw," Edwards said. "Ellie won the 200, which is a good accomplishment due to the talent at this meet."Â

"Our jumpers did an excellent job at this meet," Edwards said. "Several of them pr'd.Â Right now they are scoring a good amount of points for us.Â Walker, Gunner and AJ are doing well on the boys' side, and Ellie, Kayla and Jasmine are scoring well jumping on the girls' side. Our 4x400 boys have been knocking time off all year and ran into two All-State teams at this meet. They cut a second off of their time and were one tenth behind one of the All-State teams.Â Walker pr'd in both jumping events and the 100.Â He's having a nice season."
California will host the annual Guy Rush Memorial Invitational at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
