The City of California Board of Aldermen, at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 4, discussed the "Welcome to California" sign to be placed along Highway 50. On the day of the council meeting, the city received permission from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to place the sign on state-owned property. The California Area Chamber of Commerce has pledged $30,000 towards the project, with the council agreeing to match that amount.
Billy Roll, director for Moniteau County Disaster Preparedness, discussed the disaster plan with the council. The city and county will work together to update the 10 year old plan. A bid was selected for an ADA compliant pre-fabricated restroom. McCann Concrete, St. Louis, was awarded the bids for $59,987. Other bids approved were a bid for four backhoe tires from Nathan's Tires, for $2,020 and fire hose bids to Schuhmacher Fire Equipment, Washington, for $2,464.
The next regular monthly meeting of the city council will be Tuesday, Sept. 2, since Sept. 1, is a holiday. The council will also meet Monday, Aug. 11, to have a tax levy hearing at 6:45 p.m. and at 7 p.m., discuss the water tower bids and the applications for Recreation Director.
