In Moniteau County, High Point and Jamestown residents and visitors will celebrate the three-day Labor Day weekend Aug. 30-Sept.1 which signals the beginning of the end of summer.
In High Point, the 22nd annual Homecoming this Labor Day weekend begins Saturday, Aug. 30, with the two-mile walk/5-K run at 7:30 a.m, baby show at 10 a.m. and parade at 11 a.m. The California Community Ensemble and High Point School Band will both take part in the parade which will begin at the High Point School and go through town.
A variety of activities will take place following the parade. There is an art show from noon to 3 p.m.; a quilt show from noon to 3:30 p.m.; entertainment on stage from noon to 3 p.m., featuring Helen Russell & Company; and dinner from noon to 5:30 p.m. Other events include an antique tractor display beginning at 1 p.m., a kids bicycle rodeo also beginning at 1 p.m., a white elephant auction at 3:30 p.m., bingo, a craft show as well as face painting and balloon animals.
On Sunday, Sept. 1, Community Worship services begin at 11 a.m., at the High Point School. The speaker will be Pastor Justin Houston of Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
The Nightlight Youth Kickball Tournament begins at 3 p.m. Sunday. The event is sponsored by High Point Community Renewal Association.
In Jamestown, the 52nd annual Jamestown event, sponsored by the Lions Club, begins Friday, Aug. 29, and continues through Monday, Sept. 1. All events will be held at the Lions Club Park. The co-ed softball tournament and beer garden continue Friday though Sunday. Also on Friday is a 4-wheeler rodeo, and on Saturday is the eighth annual car show.
Sunday is a very busy day, with a community worship, FFA breakfast, horseshoe tournament, washer tournament and, of course the co-ed softball tournament and beer garden. Monday events include an all-you-can-eat barbecue, craft show and children's games.
