The California Area Chamber of Commerce board met Thursday, Jan. 9 in the City Hall meeting room.
Dolores Burger reminded the board the annual dinner will be held Saturday, Jan. 25. The Volunteer of the Year, Business of the Year and Citizen of the Year will be awarded at the meeting. She presented a worksheet outlining what has been completed and what still needs to be done. The Lady Eagles, only current chamber business that caters, will provide the meal. Tickets are available through the chamber office for $15. All businesses are encouraged to attend. Burger noted board members are needed at the Nutrition Center at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, to set up silent auction items and all board members will need to stay for cleanup.
Norris Gerhart is in charge of the silent auction items. The list of businesses was divided up among the board members to ask for auction donations. All proceeds from the silent auction will be used for scholarship funds.
The board heard and approved the minutes from the December meeting and the treasurer's report presented by Melissa Bonecutter.
Diane Eulinger distributed a written report of the month to board.
During new business the board discussed an e-mail received from Jeff Glenn, CEO, GlennView Strategies. It referenced a weed control system under review by the USDA and EPA. The board agreed to table the request until further information can be obtained. Brad Baer agreed to review the website information and talk with the local USDA office and report at the next board meeting.
The board approved cashing the Ozark Ham & Turkey Festival CD at Peoples Bank and placing the money in the festival's checking account.
President Gerhart noted this was the last meeting for three current board members, Charlie Roll, Melanie McDonald and Dolores Burger. He expressed his appreciation for their service.
In committee reports Tom Winters and the sign committee, reported they are still working on final costs. The cost for foundation and brick work are yet to be determined.
The board approved the use of $30,000 from the Ozark Ham & Turkey Festival funds to be used for the new sign at Highways 87/50 interchange.
The next meeting of the Area Chamber of Commerce board will be Thursday, Feb. 13, at 8 a.m., in the City Hall meeting room.
