MSHSAA slates 2016-17 class assignments

The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) has announced its football and basketball classifications and district assignments for the upcoming 2016 and 2017 seasons.

According to the California Pintos Athletics Facebook page, California High School will play the 2016 and 2017 football postseasons in Class 2 District 4. The Pintos will be joined in districts by Cole Camp, El Dorado, Fair Grove, Lamar, Stockton, Versailles and Warsaw.

For boys and girls basketball, California will compete in Class 3 District 13 for each of the next two postseasons. Joining California in this district will be Boonville, Cole Camp, Holden, Knob Noster, Sherwood, Versailles and Warsaw.

The MSHSAA also announced this week that the 2016 State Football Championships will be held in Springfield at Missouri State University’s Robert W. Plaster Stadium, according to the Springfield Sports Commission. MSU last hosted the state football championships in 1995. From 1996-2015, the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis was the venue.

MSU will also host the Boys and Girls State Basketball Championships at the JGH Arena and Hammons Student Center starting in 2018 and running through 2022. Current host city Columbia has hosted every boys and girls state championship since 1992. Springfield most recently hosted boys and girls state basketball games from 1985-1991 at the Hammons Student Center.
