For the last 10 years, members of both the Tipton and California country clubs have been able to compete in some friendly rounds of golf for fun and cash prizes.

Louis Schuster, an official for Monday Night Golf, said that around $1,500 was given out as prize money this year.

The location of the games alternates between Tipton and California country clubs each Monday during the 16-week season. The season usually begins the middle of April and goes to around the end of summer.

While participants have to be members of either club to play, Schuster says that the country clubs are hands off when it comes to the tournament.

"The club hosts that night and we just play golf," Schuster said. "The club doesn't really participate other than letting us play on the course."

The tournament is a handicap tournament and the members of the clubs who want to play do not need to show up every week.

Each Monday, the players pay a fee of $10 and half of the money collected that day is given to the winner of that week as prize money. While the rest is saved for a group trip to the Bear Creek Valley Golf Course. where they can play golf and have a few meals, as well.

The tournament has a point system to determine who wins. Each player gets 10 points for playing that day. An additional 125 points are also given to the player who shot the best score that night. The rest of the players behind the winner for that week get a smaller amount of points in the range of 105 to 10 points, depending on their placing. Placement is decided by what the handicap is added to what the players shot that night."

Scott Backes was the overall winner for this year.

The season ends with a trip to Bear Creek Valley golf course at Lake of the Ozarks. This year 14 qualified golfers went to Bear Creek.

Schuster said that if the clubs agree to let the players use their course for the tournament again next year, that Monday Night Golf will continue.
