Clayton Campbell of Otterville claims the custom-made Dylan Bias Memorial street stock trophy from Dylan’s family and friends.

Sunday Night Thunder at Double-X Speedway was roaring in honor of a young man taken from the racing family too soon. The Dylan Bias Memorial Street Stock Spectacular drew drivers from near and far to try and earn the title of champion of this coveted event.

Four heat races set the stage for the 25-lap main event later in the evening. Heat race number one was claimed by last year's winner Cole Henson. Joe Miller claimed heat two. Johnny Coats made the tow from Joplin and claimed heat three and Clayton Campbell was victorious in heat four.

The top eight drivers in the heats were entered in a $500 five lap dash. Cole Henson prevailed over Campbell and Coats. There were 22 cars that started the 25 lap feature event with Henson and Miller leading them to the green flag. Henson led the opening laps with Miller, Campbell and Coats in tow.

Campbell reached second place and began to stalk the leader. After seven laps, Campbell was able to overtake Henson for the lead and survive restarts and caution flags to claim the victory worth $1,250. In victory lane, the victor thanked the organizers of the event and hopes to see it grow to more cars and fans again next year.

Johnny Coats ran an extremely smooth race to finish second, running consistent lines just like the leader. Cody Frazon also was very consistent in claiming third. Joe Miller crossed the stripe fourth, narrowly edging out John Clancy in fifth. Dean Willie, Kiel Morton, Mark Davis, Dale Berry and Jeremy Curless rounded out the top ten.

The Hobby Stock division had a large number of cars in attendance as well. It was Fulton driver Cole Canada coming out on top of an attrition-laden race. By keeping his momentum going on the high side, Canada was able to best a hard-charging Drew Tully to secure the win.

Tully made a last-turn, banzai attempt at a pass, but came up just short and showed respect for the leader by braking hard to keep from having a collision and settling for runner up. Chris Brockert finished third. Mike Schrader was fourth and John Canada completed the top five. Jeremiah Wallingford, Mlee Brockert and Cole Canada claimed the heat race victories.

Tom Curran has made the tow from Kansas City each week to compete in the 600cc Winged Micro Sprint division and on Sunday night the drive home was a bit sweeter, as he picked up the victory. It was not an easy win, as he had to work to pass early-leader Philip Dietz and then he had to survive a challenge by Nick Rasa to claim the win. Following Curran across the stripe was Rasa in second, Dietz in third, Travis Arnold in fourth and Jimmy Dowell in fifth. Dietz claimed the heat race victory.

The 360 Winged Sprint Cars were light on cars, as are other weekly tracks with the division in the area, but that did not deter the drivers from putting on a show. California driver Tyler Blank made it two-in-a-row by picking up the victory. The race was led early by T.J. Muths, until Blank tried a slide job pass in turns one and two, but could not find the traction. Undeterred, Blank gained momentum down the backstretch and was able to execute the pass in turns three and four. Muths kept his smooth race going by claiming second. Matthew Howard was third, Nathan Benson was fourth and Mackenzie Borchers claimed fifth. Benson claimed the heat race victory.

Be sure to join us for Father's Day as the ASCS Warrior Region will be in the house for their second visit to the track this year. Srteet Stocks, Hobbies and 600cc Winged Micros will be on the card also.
