Floyd Wayne Wise, 86, of California, MO passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at The Bluffs nursing home in Columbia, MO. Floyd was a life-long resident of California, Mo., and was born Aug. 13, 1926, to Carl and Cora Wise. He graduated from California R-1 High School. He was married to Norma Jean Birdsong, who survives, on January 25, 1946. He has one brother, Lex Wise, who resides in Louisville, Ky., with his wife Jackie. Floyd served in the United States Army for 33 years and was overseas in the Philippine Islands for a year. He retired as a Colonel after serving both active and in the reserves. He worked for the Missouri Highway Department for 37 years and retired from there as Assistant Chief of Right Of Way. Floyd and Norma have three sons, Steve (Cathy), Rick, and Brad (Brenda) Wise. Floyd is survived by four grandsons; a granddaughter; a step-grandson; and five great-grandchildren. Floyd and Norma spent their retirement raising Longhorn cattle in California, Mo. The couple attended cattle sales in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma on numerous occasions. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary on Jan. 22, 2006, with a dinner at the Capitol Plaza in Jefferson City. Floyd was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in California, serving as an active member and Deacon. His favorite book of the Bible was Proverbs, the book of wisdom, and on that rock of wisdom he built his life. The family requests that memorials be donated to The First Baptist Church Building Fund in California, MO. Funeral Services will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of California. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Morrow. Visitation will be from 9:00-12 noon on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 also at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, MO.
