Virginia Lee McDonald

Virginia Lee (Hofstetter) McDonald, 92, of Latham, MO passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Moniteau Care Center in California, MO. She was born on January 22, 1921 in Latham, MO the daughter of Harvey and Stella (Tyree) Hofstetter both of whom preceded her in death. Virginia was married on June 14, 1941 in Columbia, MO to James R. McDonald who preceded her in death on January 1, 1996. She graduated from Latham High School and Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO. Virginia taught for many years and treasured wonderful memories of her students. She started teaching in one room schools at High Prairie, Oak Dale, Green Grove, and Latham before retiring from California R-1 in 1983. She was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church near Latham where she taught Sunday school. Virginia's pride and joy was her family. She is survived by 2 sons, Joe McDonald and wife Anita of Latham, MO, Rick McDonald and wife Theresa of Jefferson City, MO; 1 son-in-law, Warren Hutchison of Paola, KS; 1 daughter-in-law, Judy McDonald of Sullivan, MO; also 1 brother Richard Hofstetter and wife Louise of Estes Park, CO and 2 sisters, Lorine Hays and Marjorie Scovill both of Leawood, KS; 9 grandchildren, Melanie (Tim) Wilson, Stefan Hutchison, John (April) McDonald, Jennifer (Dave) Schmidt, Craig Granger, Lori McDonald, James (Melanie) McDonald, Stacy (Caleb) Steffen and Aaron McDonald; 11 great-grandchildren, Colton and Kaylee Wilson, Blake and Bryce McDonald, Wyatt, Emmy and Dillon Schmidt, Madeleine McDonald, Ty McDonald, Cooper and Cora Steffen. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Jim McDonald and 1 daughter, Judy Hutchison. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the funeral home. Officiating was the Rev. Earl Fuller. Interment was at the Green Grove Cemetery near Latham. Memorials are suggested to the Green Grove Cemetery c/o Anita McDonald, 68004 Moser Rd., Latham, MO 65050.
