Curtis Kirchner

Curtis "Shorty" Kirchner, 83, of Richland, formerly of California, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Lebanon. He was born on November 15, 1929, in California, the son of Otto John and Kathryn Viola (Tompson) Kirchner, both of whom preceded him in death. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #531 in Centertown, and a life member of the VFW in Buckhorn and Crocker. He worked as a carpenter, and drove a semi truck after his military service. He enjoyed playing bingo, and helping veterans at the bingo hall. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He is survived by his special friend, Ethel Hargett of Richland; one son, Dale Kirchner and wife Tina of California; one brother, Jerry Kirchner and wife Mary of Centertown; one sister, Shirley Decker and husband Ron of Kansas City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell Lee and Daniel Eugene Kirchner; and three brothers. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Officiating will be Darrell King. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 531, Centertown, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak, California, MO 65018. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
