Paul Groom Birdsong

Paul Groom Birdsong, 94, of Clarksburg, Mo., passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at California Care Center. He was born on August 8, 1922, in Clarksburg, Mo., the son of J. Warren Birdsong and Olive Groom Birdsong both of whom preceded him in death. He was married on June 17, 1951 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church to Jessie Donley who survives of the home. He was a graduate of Clarksburg High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the Italian Theater as a medic. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was a Deacon for many years. He was the 4-H Cooper County Fair Board President, Brush Creek 4-H Club leader and project leader for many years. He also served on the Clarksburg School Board. He was a farmer, dairyman, and had a custom hay business for many years, he enjoyed refinishing furniture, watching his family playing sports and attending their activities. Survivors include: two sons, Richard Birdsong of Richland, Mo., Philip Birdsong and his wife Donna of Clarksburg, Mo.; four daughters, Marilyn Bolinger and her husband Tony of Clarksburg, Mo., Connie Wilson and her husband, Scott of Flower Mound, Texas, Karen Kay and her husband, Larry of Boonville Mo., Jeanne Bolinger and her husband, Greg of California, Mo.; two brothers, Dean Birdsong of Clarksburg, Mo., Max Birdsong of Excelsior Springs, Mo., one sister, Sarah Margaret Donley of California, Mo.; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by: two sisters, Betty Mann and Mary Ward. Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 5 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Officiated by Bro. Bill Romans. Burial was held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery or charity of choice. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bowlin - Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak Street, California, Mo. 65018.
