Grace Laverne Lockard

LOCKARD Grace Laverne Lockard, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at River City Living Community in Jefferson City. Grace was born on June 19, 1935 in Moniteau County, the daughter of Cecil Hays and Gladys Hall, both of whom preceded her in death. Grace was first married to Gerald Riggs for 28 years then was later remarried in Tijuana, Mexico to Bruce Lockard for 34 years, who survives of the home. Grace was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church. Grace worked as a nurse's aide at California Care Center, worked at Veits Hotel in Jefferson City, and then worked at Capital Plaza Hotel until her retirement. Grace enjoyed playing bingo, Elvis, collecting salt and pepper shakers, music, taking pictures, and spending time with her family. Survivors include three daughters: Betty Atwell (Curt) of California, Barbara Riggs (Jay Johnson) of California, Shirley Riggs of Jefferson City; one step-son: Bruce L. Lockard; two step- daughters: Dana Forkner of Colorado and Pam Barrett of Maryland; one brother: Russell Hays (Betty) of California; one sister: Carol Sue Vennemann of Arkansas; 14 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons: Jerry Wayne, Gerald Riggs Jr., David Riggs, and Harvey Riggs, two brothers: Glen Hays and Leroy Hays; three sisters: Norma Dutcher, Frances Howard, and Ruby Mather. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. all at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California. Burial will be at the California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Family Of Grace Lockard, c/o the funeral home.
