William E. Tuttle

Mr. William E. (Bill) Tuttle Sr, age 90, of Prairie Home, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Ashley Manor Care Center. William Ellis Tuttle Sr. was born December 27, 1923, at his family's farm near Prairie Home, the son of Joseph Morton and Rylie Ellis Tuttle. He married Marjorie F. Taliaferro on April 25, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2013. Survivors include one son, William Ellis Tuttle Jr. (Christy) of Columbia; one daughter, Julie Thacher (Frank) of Boonville; two grandsons, Frank B. (Trey) Thacher of Memphis, Tenn. and Kyle Ellis Thacher (Andrea) of Boonville; and one great-grandson, Samuel Ellis Thacher of Boonville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joe Tuttle and Roy Tuttle. He also leaves behind his loyal and loving dog, Bud, as well as three cats who all live at the family farm. Bill was a graduate of the Prairie Home High School, a member of the Pisgah Baptist Church, and the Cooper Lodge #36AF & AM of Boonville. He was active in the Prairie Home Fair Association, the Missouri River Valley Steam Engine Show, and the Cooper County Historical Society. He and his wife, Marjorie owned and operated Bill's Plumbing and Electric in Prairie Home for over 50 years. He also was a rural mail carrier in the Bunceton and Prairie Home area for many years. He enjoyed his time on the family farm, Woodland Farms, which was settled by his family in 1844 and especially enjoyed mowing grass and tinkering in his shop. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22 at Thacher Funeral Home in Boonville. At his request he was cremated following the service and interment will take place privately at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Cooper County Historical Society; the Boonville Animal Shelter; or the charity of one's choice.
